Is it ok to quote a friend in a blog?

So me and my crush were texting one day and he something great..all philosophical and stuff... I liked it so much that I quoted it in a blog. I hadn't posted it yet. It doesn't have his name in it or anything. I didn't say "so-and so said..." It literally says "a friend of mine said..." and yes its in quotes. I am asking him if its ok to quote him though just because anytime i put something someone else said on FB I want their permission...ya know? What do you think...am I weird for asking him that?
